i am kristen gable executive director of san francisco san francisco beautiful. we are here to talk about parklets and how they have the vision of active and beautiful spaces in san francisco. we have several guiding documents in the city about hour the open spaces and public spaces should be built, what standards should they conform to? what are the guiding principles and visions for those? the open space and rec development and our better streets and plans and policies are the main documents that drive our vision in that. and parklets are some of the most tangible examples of this policies and legislation that we can see in san francisco and beyond that they're temporary. they're fast and cool as paul was telling us earlier. they prioritize the pedestrian experience. they're dynamic and multi-use spaces and they support community stewardship. our interns for the summer are going to talk more about how these spaces support the legislation that exists already but we're happy to partner with the planning department, the department of public works, with our intens

my first department in san francisco was three blocks from the store location. i love living there and while i now live elsewhere in the city i continue to shop at the restaurants and shop there. i also give my time in the community as a volunteer. for over two years i have been a mentor to a student on valencia. the area of the mission has gone through, valencia street looks and feels amazing. more people than ever seem toen jo i this section of the mission. 16 street tells another story and i'm happy to the contributing to the enhancement of the street. i love this system of it's why i was hired. not to run a big box store of disgruntled employees, but a store that actively participates. going through this process has been extremely beneficial to me. it illustrates the commitment and passion that drives this neighborhood and the city and further motivates me to be a contributor and active partner. i'm invested to ensure that this r e -- remains a unique place to live and work. thank you. >> we yield our remaining two minutes. >> mr. sanchez? >> good evening, s

i live in san francisco for 20 years. i have seen many changes. the reason i initially moved here is because of the uniqueness. north beach is independent still and chinatown is independent. people don't come here to go to jack spade. people don't come here to go to another mall. and the mission has always been unique and you need to retain it's uniqueness in order to retain it's viability. as for the jack spade and mission, i don't know what kind of research they did. i don't think it's a good fit. i don't understand who is going to buy their stuff. maybe they think rich techies are going to buy their stuff. as for their branding and merchandising, of course no stores are going to look the same. it stupid to have the same formula. the idea that a store is always going to look the same like a mcdonald's is outdated branding and merchandising. the idea that every kate spade store is going to look difference is absurd. i think you should consider the fact that they are the same. it doesn't matter what they have on the walls and what color of uniform
